Dubai Tennis Open Web Site is a Worldwide Hit

Gulf News - 14 February 1998: The latest thrills and upsets at the Dubai Tennis Open are being beamed to tennis fans around the world via the US$ 1 million tournament's official web site, with 1,600 hits being recorded in the first two days alone.

By the end of a week of top-class tennis action in Dubai, tournament owners and organisers Dubai Duty Free expect more than 15,000 visitors to view the site's 20 pages of comprehensive information on the event, its history and its star players, which this year include German tennis great Boris Becker, top 10 players Jonas Bjorkman, Yevgeny Kafelnikov, Marcelo Rios and Alex Corretja, as well as up-and-coming stars Tim Henman and Nicolas Kiefer.

The web site is designed and hosted by Cyber Gear, the local internet company based in Dubai. It is updated twice daily with tournament results after each session of play, with more frequent updates during the later rounds.

Colm McLoughlin, Managing Director of Dubai Duty Free said: "The Dubai Tennis Open is a key tournament on the ATP Tour, and with so many ranking points at stake what happens in Dubai this week is of great significance to tennis players, officials, members of the media and fans around the world."
