Green is in!

If any reader is not aware of the importance of ‘Going Green’ then he has been living on another planet! It is not enough to know about the importance of Going Green. What is important is to ‘Think Green’ and more importantly, ‘Act Green’.

Here are some important facts from the recently launched ‘Go Green’ web site at www.cyber-gear.com/gogreen
  • The energy saved by recycling a can of Coke could run a TV for three hours.

  • You can make 20 cans out of recycled material with the same amount of energy it takes to make one new one.

  • In the average home, 40% of all electricity used to power home electronics is consumed while the products are turned off.

  • Every ton of paper recycled saves 17 trees.

  • Green buildings on average can provide savings of up to 40 per cent in energy and water consumption and reduce waste production by 40 per cent.

  • The U.S. alone uses nearly $1 million worth of energy every minute.

  • Only 10% of the energy used by an incandescent bulb produces light; the rest is given off as heat.

  • If we recycled every plastic bottle we used, we would keep 2 billion tons of plastic out of landfills.

  • Production of recycled paper uses 80% less water, 65% less energy and produces 95% less air pollution than virgin paper production.

  • Recycled glass saves 50% energy vs. virgin glass; recycling of one glass container saves enough energy to light a 100-watt bulb for 4 hours.

  • Turn off the tap when brushing your teeth and soaping your hands. This can save around 16 litres a day. That's 11,000 litres of water per person per year.

  • A dripping tap can waste over 20,000 litres of water every year.

  • Adjust your thermostat one degree higher in the summer and one degree cooler in the winter. Each degree Celsius less will save about 10% on your energy use!

  • Recycling just the Sunday papers would save more than half a million trees every week.

  • Switching off one bulb for one hour saves up to 22,000 watts per year.
