How do I get onto the first page of Google?

This is the most ‘Frequently Asked Question’ on my various visits to clients in the region. The answer is simple. You need to do SEO. Search engine optimisation is the process of improving the volume and quality of traffic to a web site from search engines via "natural" ("organic" or "algorithmic") search results for targeted keywords.

You got to know the tricks of the trade or trust a professional to do it for you. Without sharing the trade secrets, here are some pointers:

1. Content is King

Build your web content around the keywords that best describe your business from the site visitors/searchers point of view. The common fallacy is to create content from the internal organisations point of view and not from a site visitors point of view.

2. Link Reputation

What other web pages say your web site is about (based on the words in and around the links that point to your website) and the determined quality and authority of those web pages is of significance. Obtain quality hyperlinks from your suppliers, clients and business partners sites.

3. Authority

How important your website is in the "eyes" of the search engines based on the amount of links and quality of links pointing to your site. This is also known as Page Rank, defined by Google as:

"PageRank relies on the uniquely democratic nature of the web by using its vast link structure as an indicator of an individual page's value. Google interprets a link from page A to page B as a vote, by page A, for page B. But, Google looks at more than the sheer volume of votes or links a page receives, it also analyzes the pages that casts the vote. Votes cast by pages that are themselves 'important' weigh more heavily and help to make other pages 'important'."

The position that your site will get depends on the 'score' that it receives based on these factors. Remember that this 'score' is always in relation to a particular keyword.

If all of above sounds too complicated, simply call 04 3312627 and ask to speak to a SEO specialist.
